Ravi Jagannathan is the Chicago Mercantile Exchange/John F. Sandner Professor of Finance and a Co-Director of the Financial Institutions and Markets Research Center. Before joining the Kellogg faculty, Professor Jagannathan was the Piper Jaffray Professor of Finance at the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and he served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Professor Jagannathan's articles have appeared in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, and Review of Financial Studies and served on the editorial boards as well.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of the American Finance Association, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research, and President of the Society of Financial Studies. He has served on the advisory group on Share Based Compensation at the International Accounting Standards Board and as consultant to several companies in the financial services sector. He is a member of the American Finance Association, the Western Finance Association, and the Econometrics Society.
Professor Jagannathan received his Ph.D. and M.S. at Carnegie-Mellon University, M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management, and B.E. from the University of Madras, India.
Suresh Sundaresan is the Chase Manhattan Bank Professor of Economics and Finance at Columbia University. He has published in the areas of Treasury auctions, bidding, default risk, habit formation, term structure of interest rates, asset pricing, investment theory, pension asset allocation, swaps, options, forwards, futures, fixed-income securities markets and risk management. His research papers have appeared in Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Business, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, European Economic Review, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Political Economy, Financial Times, and World Bank Conferences etc. He is an associate editor of Journal of Finance and Review of Derivatives Research.
He has worked as a senior strategist at Lehman Brothers in their Fixed Income Division during 1986-1987 and has consulted full time for Morgan Stanley Asset Management during 2000-2001. He has conducted training programs for leading investment banks including, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, CSFB and Lehman Brothers. He is the author of the text "Fixed-Income Markets and Their Derivatives." He has served on the Treasury Bond Markets Advisory Committee. He was the resident scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York during 2006.
Viral V. Acharya is a Professor of Finance in the New York University Stern School of Business. Prior to this, he was a Professor of Finance and Academic Director of the Private Equity Institute at the London Business School, a Research Affiliate of the Center for Economic Policy Research and an Academic Advisor to the Bank of England. He was appointed Senior Houblon-Normal Research Fellow at the Bank of England to conduct research on efficiency of the inter-bank lending markets for the summer of 2008.
He has published articles in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Business, Rand Journal of Economics, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, and Financial Analysts Journal.
Professor Acharya has received numerous awards and recognition for his research including the Best Paper Award in Corporate Finance from the Journal of Financial Economics, Best Paper Award in Equity Trading at the Western Finance Association Meetings, Outstanding Referee Award for the Review of Financial Studies, the inaugural Lawrence G. Goldberg Prize for the Best Ph.D. in Financial Intermediation, Best Paper Award in Asset Pricing from the Journal of Financial Economics and an inaugural Rising Star in Finance Award.
Professor Acharya earned a B. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and a Ph.D. in Finance from New York University Stern School of Business.
Dr.Mukund Govind Rajan holds a B.Tech. degree from I.I.T. Delhi. He completed his Masters and Doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University, where he studied on the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. He joined the Tata group in 1995 through its premier management programme, the Tata Administrative Service (TAS). He was assigned in 1996 to the office of the Chairman of Tata Sons Limited, the principal investment holding company of the Tata group, where he rose to the position of Vice President.
In 2008, he took charge as Managing Director of Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited, and after a 28 month stint leading that company, he joined Tata Capital Limited to help launch a new private equity fund, the Tata Opportunities Fund. Dr Rajan has served on the Boards of a number of Tata companies, including Tata Teleservices Ltd., Tata Communications Ltd., and Piem Hotels Ltd. He has also served as President of the Association of Unified Access Service Providers of India (AUSPI). In 2007, the World Economic Forum honoured him as a Young Global Leader. Dr Rajan currently serves as a Director on the Boards of Lakshmi Machine Works Limited, and Roots Corporation Limited.
Mr. Ranade is an alumnus of IIT, Mumbai and IIM – Ahmedabad. He is the Chief Economist at the Aditya Birla Group focusing on macro-economic, policy and sectoral issues.. His professional career has spanned academic and corporate assignments, in India as well as in the US, and he has also been the Chief Economist at ABN Amro Bank. He is a member of the Board of India Today Economists, chairs the CII West Zone Sub Committee on Economic Affairs and the Research Advisory Panel of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance and also been a Chairman of IITBAA.
Dr Ranade held a faculty position at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, the Indian Council of Research on International Economic Relations and JNU, New Delhi. He was also a faculty of Brown University, Holy Cross College, and Wesleyan University in the US.
Currently Praveen Chakravarty serves as Chief Executive Officer of Investment Banking and Equities Business at Anand Rathi Financial Services Limited. Mr. Chakravarty is the Co-Founder of Mumbai Angels and an active angel investor, sitting on the boards of various start-ups. He is an active public policy enthusiast. Previously, Mr. Chakravarty joined the Unique Identification Authority of India project as a volunteer for its Financial Inclusion initiative. He served as BNP Paribas Securities’ India Managing Director for Institutional Equities. Mr.Chakravarty was a Managing Director at BNP Paribas and prior to that, Mr. Chakravarty was a Founder-Director at Thomas Weisel India, a boutique investment bank headquartered in San Francisco, CA. Prior to his Wall Street career, Mr.Chakravarty spent 7 years at Microsoft and IBM in the US and India in various product marketing roles.
Mr.Chakravarty is a frequent contributor to opinion-editorial columns of leading newspapers. Mr.Chakravarty is also actively involved in various public policy initiatives in areas of youth employability and financial inclusion for the poor.
He is a voracious non-fiction reader, an active cricketer, a history buff and a keen follower of the randomness of the financial markets.Mr. Chakravarty received his MBA degree from the Wharton School and his undergraduate degree from BITS, Pilani.
V. Balasubramaniam (Bala) is the Chief Business Officer at BSE Ltd (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange) responsible for the Markets – Trading Business, Data Business, Listings Business and Index Business and a part of the Executive Management Committee. He has more than two decades of experience in managing business and technology operations in the capital markets and derivatives market industry. He was part of the Core team involved in setting up the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and played a key role in the setting up of NSE trading systems for the Equity segment, creation of indices (Nifty 50), introduction of Certification program and Equity Derivatives market segment of NSE.
He is a Master of Commerce from the University of Mumbai, a Rank holder from the Institute of Costs and Works Accountants and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.
